Timeline of Events that Influence

Essential Question: What can we learn from other people’s stories of resilience that we might be able to use in our own lives?

Task: Craft a timeline of the historical events or pervasive behaviors that may have impacted and/or influenced your historical figure. You will also need to include the major life events for your historical figure. Consider using one color for historical events and another for significant life events of the person you researched.

For this task I recommend using www.tiki-toki.com to create your timeline. You may opt to use another application such as Gliffy or Bubbl.us.

Historical Facts

Research your historical figure finding facts that support resilient characteristics. You will need to have at least 3 websites, only one can be Wikipedia. In your packet write down the URL for the sites you used. Write down as many facts as you can find, preferably that will connect with the resiliency traits of your community member. Be sure to include the URL for each fact.

Once you have these facts, you are going to start research what was going on in history surrounding this person’s life. Events such as wars, the Great Depression, or Civil Rights movement are examples of events to look for. You will use these events to create a timeline in the next assignment.

Community Member Report

Your task is to write a one to two page paper using Google Docs about your chosen resilient community member. It is important that in the paper you include WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, WHY, and HOW of your resilient person’s story. Include a reflection of what you learned from this person about resilience and how it will affect your decisions.
